What Partisan are You? Take This Simple Quiz!
Question: How do you tell the difference between Democrats, Republicans And Southern Republicans? Answer the following question in the Poll above: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock cal 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Democrat's Answer:Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor! Or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Republican's Answer: BANG! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Southern Republican's Answer: BANG! BANG! I wish to thank the good people at the EIB Institute of Higher Learning for this photo to ad to my blog. Folks, this is just plain ole' good leadership happening in Texas! At least we know taxpayers will not have to worry about buying new busses down there! New Orleans (NO), well a picture is worth a few billion words!
Supply and Demand Works - Plus Random Thoughts
$2.35 - that is what the price of gas was this morning (9/20) when I filled up. But, in addition to that, I received 3c off for a purchase price of $2.32 by filling up at Wal-Mart! Last week, the previous time I filled up my car gas was 2.59 at Wal-Mart. Previous to that, $2.76. At it's height after Katrina, Wal-Mart was $2.99. This is middle America Gas - Oklahoma. In a little over 2 weeks, gas dropped over 60c!
Katrina forced refineries to go offline and decommissioned some for several days. This coupled with the "wonderful" power of the media - the price of gas sky-rocketed! Supply was down - not immediately, for their was a produced amount of gas prior to Katrina. However, justifiable increase in the price of gas could be found in decreased production. Since the media was calling the hand, supply further decreased. Folks, this is the law of supply and demand at its basic roots!
As refineries went back online, and Americans "chilled-out" a bit, the demand for gas decreased. Thus, production and less demand created a "surplus" of gas. Prices fell.
Granted, there is some absurd and frustrating reasons for the price of gas these days, but the rest is plain ole' capitalism. I for one am glad the gas companies are flourishing.
However, I am disappointed that new refineries have not opened and we have not begun to access our own oil. We must call for this as Americans - we can still keep our national forests clean and relatively unharmed. We can co-exist with nature. We are one of the most civilized nations of the world, with some of the most environmentally clean and skilled industries. Let's put them to work on our own oil and our own refineries. Call your representatives and senators and let them know you want real government to happen.
** While you are on the phone, encourage them to vote for the judicial nominations of President Bush. This is not a time for partisan bullying. Questions, fine. But as long as there is not a moral or ethical reason to vote against a nomination, "let's get it done" and move on!
** Is it not amazing how gridlock has formed on the highways of Texas due to Rita? Why did this not happen in New Orleans and other Katrina effected areas? What about Florida? The governor of FL mobilized Guard units and was prepared as he has been in the past. Live and learn....
** Tax breaks in Katrina affected areas will be future taxes on our children. We need a relief cap, we need to cap the Presidential Check Book and we need to guard against fraud and misuse. In the face of huge national debt, we need to keep government at a minimum. Will this make people happy? No. Will this appease naysayers? No. (but neither will free spending). Folks, I do not know about your finances, but my check book can only handle so much "red." Moreover, my debt ratio has a ceiling and my cards do not get used. Why can government just spend as they want? Have we considered where that money is coming from? It will be paid by our children and grandchildren. God forbid, but if we have a democrat as President and loose control of the government in the next elections...We could find ourselves in a tax-crazy world! Just think, Americans have "**DONATED**" over 1 BILLION dollars to quatrain victims.... Hmm, think there is private and "religious/non-profit" money out there?
** National ID Card - oh boy, this does not sound good for "privacy." "They" will be able to track us to the moment we go patty...Or at least know what kind of TV we use!

Rebuild New Orleans
One must wonder about the logistics and worthiness of rebuilding such a city. The city sits under the level of the sea by 7-10+ feet. It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that a small wave and slightly torrential rain could be a problem. The pumps in the city - which are spread out all over the city - pump all the time. If you link to the NYTimes site
http://www.nytimes.com and click "complete storm coverage" there are subsequent links that will show you the locations of the pumps and which are currently working.
So, do we rebuild at taxpayers expense? Have they not mishandled our money already? Core of Engineers and FEMA money has been put to other things of "importance in LA" - things other than levies and pumps.
This was the subject of my poll this last week. Had a fairly great response - though look forward to more responders. * In fact, if you are not seeing the poll on the left of your screen when you click to my site, click your "refresh" button. (You have to scroll down a bit, but I am trying to get that fixed.)If that does not work - let me know. I have had quite a few visits, but not everyone voted.
Up until today - the vote was about 60% do not rebuild and 30% rebuild. Roughly 10% said "rebuild - but with reservations." Today, the poll reflects a 54% by 46% split. Do nots still have it, but rebuild with or without reservations comes in close second.
The comments were interesting: Comparison was made to Sodom and Gamorrah in the Bible; sin demans punishment; mercy over judgement; "we must rebuild for crawfish etoufette; and so forth.
Is it settled then? The "no's" have it? I don't know. We will have to see how it pans out. I know one thing - the tax payer should not be burdened with or punished by the decision.
Fact Attack
TODAY’S FACTS: (quotes are straight from the article, rest is commentary)
President is not to blame – in fact, no one is, says over 1/3 of America:
“Asked who was MOST responsible for the post-hurricane problems, 13% picked Bush (this with 45% saying his response has been poor), 18% said federal agencies, 25% selected state/local officials and 38% said no one was to blame. Asked if top officials in federal agencies responsible for emergencies should be fired, 29% said yes, and 63% no.” (CNN/USA Today Gallup Poll).
Goes to show, the liberals and media are WAY off …. Or maybe they need to work harder at selling the President short!
Senator Clinton on FEMA bungle:
“Clinton railed Tuesday against the post-Sept. 11 move to reorganize FEMA under the new Department of Homeland Security.” (AP Newstory, Newsday.com)
Now, wait a minute, didn’t Ms. Clinton and gang (Lieberman, etc) vote to create Homeland Security and move FEMA under its umbrella?? This wasn’t just a GOP thing! (http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?vote_id=3110&can_id=WNY99268)
Presidential Vacations
Is the President really ever on vacation? Can he really enjoy and disconnect? Matters of national security, foreign importance, border control, terrorism and natural catastrophes – they don’t wait for a golf game to end or for you to work a ranch. Being President is 24/7…worse than working the ER; pasturing a parish; or manning a call center!
The question is raised: What about congress? Where have they been? What are they doing? They work in DC a limited amount of the time and do not have to show for votes. Granted they need to get out and meet their people – but what are they really doing?
Congressional hick up turns into headache!
Roberts is not just a Supreme Court appointee – he’s now in line for the big cheese, the whole enchilada! Bush announced this week – formally today - that he would set him up for Rehnquist’s spot. Oh, boy, did heads spin! Roberts may have just been moved on in until this announcement. Now, there is a scramble and more “information” (translate: mud) is needed. LA Times article on 9/7 stacked the case that the Democrats “need to know who the next appointee is” so they can make clearer decisions on Roberts – especially since he is now in line for the Supreme Supreme Seat. http://www.latimes.com/. Maybe Bush will “think outside the bun.” (Taco Bell).
What would Republicans do if Clinton were in Bush’s seat? Based on history, there would be high level of concern and debate – only this time, there would be an extreme grass roots call for serious investigation for a confirmation – but ultimately, we’d affirm the decision.
Hoof in Mouth Disease?
Much is being said about the run of disease and pollutants in New Orleans. What about what is being said outside and around New Orleans? Could much of it be Hoof in Mouth Disease? Otherwise known as Foot in Mouth? Read on...
The ‘good’ Rev. Jesse Jaaack-sun and son are part of the left-ist movement to once again pin something on the white man. This would be yet another absurd conclusion to Hurricane Katrina. America is equal opportunity and where there is not EO there is Affirmative Action. There was ample opportunity for individuals to leave the city. Everyone – no matter the race or ethnicity – knows New Orleans would flood if a big one hit it. I do not live there and have only visited once – I know this. It is common knowledge.
Again, common sense would say – “somehow, I must leave this city for higher ground.” That means: by foot, by bike, by car, by motorcycle, by friend/relative/relation, by boat – you make it a point to leave. It is unfortunate that many left behind are black and of minority status. However, I have seen whites in photos. Death of common sense is an Equal Opportunity Offender. (Those excused of this: would be those in hospitals, etc). Let’s not play the blame game or the racist card – America needs to move on from this!
As for the recovery efforts: the left – with their loud mouths – ought to consider the fact that things are happening as quickly as possible. Communication has provided errors and omissions with FEMA, the Governor, and other officials – and these are non-partison errors. So, perfection has not been recognized. But even so, a calamity of this magnitude is stretching our abilities and failure is to be expected on occasion. What matters is whether we learn from it or not. Rev. Jesse and son ought to have figured this out by now: the American people are re-builders and love to help. Tragedy affects us all. Compassion wells up within us. Color fades. Status dwindles. Americans reach out and do so despite the negative rhetoric – and thank goodness, for without the American Spirit, everyone left in New Orleans would be “up a creek without a paddle.” Seriously.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION POLL RESULTS
The poll generated 7-10 total votes. The democrats had seven votes cast and the republicans had 10. Both Condoleeza Rice & Hillary Clinton were chosen out of the poll to be the runners for respective parties in 2008. Hey, it’s only 2005 – a lot may change before then. Thanks for casting your vote! Cast your vote on the new poll!
Did Common Sense Die?
Did Common Sense Die?I am amazed at the verbal gymnastics one has to succeed at in order to survive a day of news! Literally, the media is as bad, if not worse than the liberal left. So, let’s handspring off a couple of these horrible “arguments” and soar to more majestic ideals. By the way, in consideration of majesty, my apologies for being lax and I look forward to being back on target!
Common Sense #1:
Bush did not start or create Hurricane Katrina. This is an absurd argument and a vicious slap in the face to all those affected, involved and contributing to the recovery efforts. Katrina is an act of nature - plain and simple.
Common Sense #2:
Hurricane Katrina did not blossom due to a hole in our ozone. Hurricanes (otherwise known as typhoons) have been present for centuries and will continue to be present. Like an earthquake, tornado or lightning strike; hurricanes are a natural part of the earth’s environmental cleansing process. Unfortunately, they can leave mass destruction in their wake as we have seen. Even smaller storm have left a sizeable amount of devastation.
Common Sense #3:
SUVs did not beckon Katrina ashore. SUVs may be big, but none of them could hold a storm, much less cause one. SUVs are just overgrown cars. Cars use fossil fuel and whether a vehicle may travel 19miles per gallon or 35+, fuel is being expended. People, get off this SUV argument – if you do not like SUVs, do not buy one. They are very practical for travel and content hauling. I happen to have a van and choose not to have an SUV because I can not afford one – this does not mean I should ridicule everyone that purchases one.
Common Sense #4:
$3, $4 per gallon is tough to swallow. That is plain and simple. But it is just that. Let us allow the laws of Supply and Demand to come to fruition. The bubble will burst (Forbes) and we will survive. But do not use the above or any other number of absurd reasons to attack President Bush. But this is a law of goods attainment that gives our economy its strength. Without supply and demand, without products, without business our economy would not be what it is today. At this point, inflation is still at bay and services are not hindered. This may not stay this way, as costs of moving products and services will begin to increase business overhead; but, it certainly shows the strength of the American Economy.
Common Sense #5:
Price Capping will just punish the oil companies or increase the likelihood of fuel shortages. Those selling the gas will simply say “No sweat off our back. We’ll sell to another.” Then, service stations will close, we will have lines at the pump. Knee-jerk reactions never supply good long term results.
Common Sense #6:
There is nothing common sense related to anything that comes from Hillary Clinton. She is backward, anti-capitalist and leans towards severe socialism. Hearings on price gouging – WHO CARES!
I could go on and will likely add to this list. But I will keep this posting to a minimum. Look forward to your comments.
