Did Common Sense Die?

Did Common Sense Die?

I am amazed at the verbal gymnastics one has to succeed at in order to survive a day of news! Literally, the media is as bad, if not worse than the liberal left. So, let’s handspring off a couple of these horrible “arguments” and soar to more majestic ideals. By the way, in consideration of majesty, my apologies for being lax and I look forward to being back on target!

Common Sense #1:
Bush did not start or create Hurricane Katrina. This is an absurd argument and a vicious slap in the face to all those affected, involved and contributing to the recovery efforts. Katrina is an act of nature - plain and simple.

Common Sense #2:
Hurricane Katrina did not blossom due to a hole in our ozone. Hurricanes (otherwise known as typhoons) have been present for centuries and will continue to be present. Like an earthquake, tornado or lightning strike; hurricanes are a natural part of the earth’s environmental cleansing process. Unfortunately, they can leave mass destruction in their wake as we have seen. Even smaller storm have left a sizeable amount of devastation.

Common Sense #3:
SUVs did not beckon Katrina ashore. SUVs may be big, but none of them could hold a storm, much less cause one. SUVs are just overgrown cars. Cars use fossil fuel and whether a vehicle may travel 19miles per gallon or 35+, fuel is being expended. People, get off this SUV argument – if you do not like SUVs, do not buy one. They are very practical for travel and content hauling. I happen to have a van and choose not to have an SUV because I can not afford one – this does not mean I should ridicule everyone that purchases one.

Common Sense #4:
$3, $4 per gallon is tough to swallow. That is plain and simple. But it is just that. Let us allow the laws of Supply and Demand to come to fruition. The bubble will burst (Forbes) and we will survive. But do not use the above or any other number of absurd reasons to attack President Bush. But this is a law of goods attainment that gives our economy its strength. Without supply and demand, without products, without business our economy would not be what it is today. At this point, inflation is still at bay and services are not hindered. This may not stay this way, as costs of moving products and services will begin to increase business overhead; but, it certainly shows the strength of the American Economy.

Common Sense #5:
Price Capping will just punish the oil companies or increase the likelihood of fuel shortages. Those selling the gas will simply say “No sweat off our back. We’ll sell to another.” Then, service stations will close, we will have lines at the pump. Knee-jerk reactions never supply good long term results.

Common Sense #6:
There is nothing common sense related to anything that comes from Hillary Clinton. She is backward, anti-capitalist and leans towards severe socialism. Hearings on price gouging – WHO CARES!

I could go on and will likely add to this list. But I will keep this posting to a minimum. Look forward to your comments.

Fixed the afore unnoticed duel posting. Thanks for the note. As for Bush waiting - doubt it. I will agree with the "sentiment his absence" that is behind her statement.

Long term plans need to be addressed for America to be less reliant on foreign oil. Opening reserves, I think this borders on "knee jerk." But it helps temporarily. New drilling projects and especially the creation of refineries must be encouraged. There is a happy medium that will not win full approval of the enviro-wackos, but will allow clean drilling due to modern technology and enviromental concern focus.

You mean Bush didn't cause Katrina? Man I was way off. I thought there was some new secret weapon that could cause tsunamis and hurricanes with the push of a button. What was I thinking?

Seriously, good post and hopefully America will not continue in panic mode.
