Fact Attack

TODAY’S FACTS: (quotes are straight from the article, rest is commentary)
President is not to blame – in fact, no one is, says over 1/3 of America:
“Asked who was MOST responsible for the post-hurricane problems, 13% picked Bush (this with 45% saying his response has been poor), 18% said federal agencies, 25% selected state/local officials and 38% said no one was to blame. Asked if top officials in federal agencies responsible for emergencies should be fired, 29% said yes, and 63% no.” (CNN/USA Today Gallup Poll).

Goes to show, the liberals and media are WAY off …. Or maybe they need to work harder at selling the President short!

Senator Clinton on FEMA bungle:
“Clinton railed Tuesday against the post-Sept. 11 move to reorganize FEMA under the new Department of Homeland Security.” (AP Newstory, Newsday.com)

Now, wait a minute, didn’t Ms. Clinton and gang (Lieberman, etc) vote to create Homeland Security and move FEMA under its umbrella?? This wasn’t just a GOP thing! (http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?vote_id=3110&can_id=WNY99268)

Presidential Vacations
Is the President really ever on vacation? Can he really enjoy and disconnect? Matters of national security, foreign importance, border control, terrorism and natural catastrophes – they don’t wait for a golf game to end or for you to work a ranch. Being President is 24/7…worse than working the ER; pasturing a parish; or manning a call center!

The question is raised: What about congress? Where have they been? What are they doing? They work in DC a limited amount of the time and do not have to show for votes. Granted they need to get out and meet their people – but what are they really doing?

Congressional hick up turns into headache!
Roberts is not just a Supreme Court appointee – he’s now in line for the big cheese, the whole enchilada! Bush announced this week – formally today - that he would set him up for Rehnquist’s spot. Oh, boy, did heads spin! Roberts may have just been moved on in until this announcement. Now, there is a scramble and more “information” (translate: mud) is needed. LA Times article on 9/7 stacked the case that the Democrats “need to know who the next appointee is” so they can make clearer decisions on Roberts – especially since he is now in line for the Supreme Supreme Seat. http://www.latimes.com/. Maybe Bush will “think outside the bun.” (Taco Bell).

What would Republicans do if Clinton were in Bush’s seat? Based on history, there would be high level of concern and debate – only this time, there would be an extreme grass roots call for serious investigation for a confirmation – but ultimately, we’d affirm the decision.
